Introgression of qDTY1.1 Governing Reproductive Stage Drought Tolerance into an Elite Basmati Rice Variety “Pusa Basmati 1” through Marker Assisted Backcross Breeding

چکیده
Drought stress at the reproductive stage in rice is one of most important cause for yield reduction, affecting both productivity and quality. All Basmati varieties, including popular cultivar “Pusa 1 (PB1)” highly sensitive to drought (RSDS). We report first time, improvement a RSDS tolerance, with introgression major quantitative trait locus (QTL), “qDTY1.1” into PB1. The QTL was sourced from an aus variety, Nagina 22 (N22). A microsatellite (simple sequence repeat (SSR)) marker “RM 431” located telomeric end (38.89 mb) chromosome 1, within 1.04 mb region employed foreground selection qDTY1.1 assisted backcross breeding process. set 113 SSR markers polymorphic between N22 PB1 were utilized background ensure higher recurrent parent genome recovery. After three backcrosses followed by five generations selfing, eighteen near isogenic lines (NILs) developed, through combinatory agro-morphological, grain cooking quality traits. NILs evaluated consecutive Kharif seasons, 2017, 2018 2019 under well-watered conditions. tolerance stability indicated that P1882-12-111-3, P1882-12-111-5, P1882-12-111-6, P1882-12-111-7, P1882-12-111-12, P1882-12-111-15 P1882-12-111-17 best terms overall agronomic RSDS. Additionally, exhibited high potential normal condition as well. tolerant resilience water stress, valuable resource sustaining production limiting environments.

Introgression of blast resistance genes into the elite rice variety MR263 through marker-assisted backcrossing.
BACKGROUND Blast caused by the fungus Magnaporthe oryzae is a significant disease threat to rice across the world and is especially prevalent in Malaysia. An elite, early-maturing, high-yielding Malaysian rice variety, MR263, is susceptible to blast and was used as the recurrent parent in this study. To improve MR263 disease resistance, the Pongsu Seribu 1 rice variety was used as donor of the ...
متن کاملMarker-assisted introgression in backcross breeding programs.
The efficiency of marker-assisted introgression in backcross populations derived from inbred lines was investigated by simulation. Background genotypes were simulated assuming that a genetic model of many genes of small effects in coupling phase explains the observed breed difference and variance in backcross populations. Markers were efficient in introgression backcross programs for simultaneo...
متن کاملMarker Aided Incorporation of Saltol, a Major QTL Associated with Seedling Stage Salt Tolerance, into Oryza sativa ‘Pusa Basmati 1121’
Pusa Basmati 1121 (PB1121), an elite Basmati rice cultivar is vulnerable to salinity at seedling stage. A study was undertaken to impart seedling-stage salt tolerance into PB1121 by transferring a quantitative trait locus (QTL), Saltol, using FL478 as donor, through marker assisted backcrossing. Sequence tagged microsatellite site (STMS) marker RM 3412, tightly linked to Saltol was used for for...
متن کاملMolecular breeding for the development of multiple disease resistance in Basmati rice
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Basmati rice grown in the Indian subcontinent is highly valued for its unique culinary qualities. Production is, however, often constrained by diseases such as bacterial blight (BB), blast and sheath blight (ShB). The present study developed Basmati rice with inbuilt resistance to BB, blast and ShB using molecular marker-assisted selection. METHODOLOGY The rice cultivar 'I...
متن کاملGlycaemic index (GI) of an Indian branded thermally treated basmati rice variety: a multi centric study.
BACKGROUND Glycaemic Index (GI) is the classification of carbohydrates based on their ability to raise blood glucose levels and evidence shows that its usage has beneficial health implications. Rice forms a part of the Indian staple diet and one of the major energy contributors. Hence, it is important to establish the Glycaemic Index (GI) value of rice. However, due to availability of different...
